Product Design--The Interface between Science and Art
The Department of Product Design maintains a national developmental focus as it integrates culture, art, computer technology, and marketing. Our aim is to utilise professional techniques in the design of products for daily use.
GOALS
-
To educate and ground students in theoretical and academic principles of project design, production, marketing etc..
-
To develop student skills in computer-aided design, thus saving time and increasing cost-effectiveness and design quality.
-
To integrate theoretical and practical teaching through requiring students to design fashionable and marketable products for the local market.
-
To cooperate with local manufacturers in order to enhance student knowledge of market trends and to develop further practical experience in regards to consumer goods and daily products.
|
COURSE FEATURES
-
Our Department has designed its teaching around three design clusters: namely, (1) daily-use product design, (2) cultural product design, and (3) computer-aided product design.
-
Our computer-aided design courses include: CAD/CAM/CAE, Rapid Prototyping, Touching Design System, Computerized Reverse Engineering, CNC Machining, Computer 3D Drawing, 3D Animation, 3D Virtual Reality, Web Page Design, Multi-Media Design, Image Processing, and Digital Video Editing.
-
Certification System – we encourage our students to obtain certifications in Advertisement Design, Computer 3D Drawing, AUTOCAD, Web Page Design, Engineering Drawing, Computer Animation and Applications on Computer Software.
|
FACILITIES
The department has established more than 10 specialized student labs - including computer-aided design lab, rapid prototyping lab, multi-medium design lab, digital media lab, sophisticated product design and machining lab, machining workshop, model making workshop, sketch studio, 2-D design studio, 3-D design studio, 3-D model and pottery workshop, and dark room. Each laboratory is equipped with updated professional facilities, with some having a ‘one-on-one’ capability.
PROSPECT
Having developed their skills in product design, marketing and computer-aided design, graduating students may opt to either pursue further academic studies or be employed in a number of related fields and industries.
