To unify both the teaching and practical experiences, and to integrate the campus resources, there are three groups in Computer Center: System Development, Network Administration and Education Administration. These three groups each responsible for computing administrative services, networking planning, computing courses education, distance learning, and art designing on the web page.

The wireless environment makes our teachers and students non-confined in using their notebook computers to surf the net anywhere on campus. Besides, the email addresses, web accounts and the surfing classroom we offer all have made them accessible to the Internet. On distance learning, we offer space for teachers to upload their teaching, or reference material for students to learn and consult any time they want.

In order to enhance the network bandwidth, we use the TANET fiber backbone (MAN structure) to replace the T1 leased line in 2002. We also purchased some high-level database servers and web servers to make our administrative services more efficient and convenient to staff/faculty and students.

Electronic Mail

The school authority will prepare an e-mail address for every freshman within the first month of the first semseter. This address can be used even after graduation.The address can be used either through ordinary email receiving system, or through Webmail, offered by us.

About your E-Mail address:

There are ten numbers in every student number; the first two numbers are the school year in which you enroll in our school, and the last one is a computer-spcified code.

Example: 9012345678 à90 is the school year you enroll in

8 is the computer-spcified code

The first nine numbers, excluded the computer-specified code, make your E-Mail address, with the first two numbers transferred in sequence to the corrosponding sequence of English letters

Following the previous example, the first nine numbers are 901234567, and we transcribed the first two numbers into English letters (90=m), then we have m1234567 for the email address.

PASSWORD: we use your ID card number with the first English letter capitalized.The password can be changed.

The setting of Server:

The outsending server:SMTP : cc.fotech.edu.tw

The receiving server: POP3：cc.fotech.edu.tw

How to use the email off campus:

To prevent the flooding of useless commercial email into the address, only

the computers on campus can be used.

When using it at home, you only have to change the SMTP to your ISP server.

Example:

I’m using Hinet at home; Hinet offers me an email address: abc123@ms42.hinet.net.I only have to change my SMTP to ms42.hinet.net.

Mail room:

1G Byte for every student.

An antivirus software is installed on the server to block any viruses.

Wireless Campus for Surfing the Internet

We have made building H on Wanda campus and the building on Daliao wireless for students to surf on the Internet. When the sign is seen, it means you can have a wireless surfing.

How to use:

Set you wireless surfing card.After you hook onto the Internet, open your browser, and it will show the assurance of wireless surfing. Fill in the email address and password offered by us and make us identify you.Press exit when leaving.

Example: IF your email address is m1234567@cc.fotech.edu.tw; fill in the following information.

Username: m1234567

Password: your email password

If your email address is user@center.fotech.edu.tw; key in the following

Username: user

Password: your email password

Internet in the dorm

We offers internet system in both dorms on Chishan and Wanda campuses. The application procedure listed as follows.As to the charging standard, please click onto http://www.center.fotech.edu.tw.

1. Dorms that can use the internet:
• All.
2. Application Procedure:
• Get the application form at the dorm management division→Pay at the cashier’s division→Apply at the computer center→used when ready
3. Charging unit price:
• The internet charge is paid by every computer set on Chishan campus, Do follow the instuctions when using TANET.
4. The hard and software you need.
• PC set
• Internet card（for RJ45 outlet）
• Internet cord with a head of RJ45
• Drving software of the Internet card
• Systems such as Win95, Win98, WinNT, Win2000 or Linux are O.K.
5. Things you have to know
• In each room, there is a cable box with two UTP hooks.You have to prepare extra hub when there are more than two people using in a room.
• There is a IP for every bed in a room. Basically, there is one computer for one bed.Check the attribution and location of IP on each floor either on the home page of the computer center, or on the bulletin of the dorm management division.

• Get the application form at the dorm management division→Pay at the cashier’s division→Apply at the computer center→ADSL service men install the whole system.
3. Charging unit price:
• Charged by every room, no limitation as to the number of computers used.
• Follow the regulations of ADSL when using.
4. The soft and hardware you need:
• A PC
• A surfing card（suitable for RJ45）
• UTP（Unshielded Twisted Pair）
• The driving software of the surfing card.
• Win95，Win98，WinNT，Win2000 or Linux are functionable.
5. Things you have to know:
• All the Internet sytstems in the dorm are responsible by Chinese Telecom.If there is any problem, contact them directly(phone them by the telephone attached) If you need to let the Computer Center take charge, please write down the lighting condition on ADSL ATU-R, and let us know.
